a pulse that ponders
February 17, 2023–February 18, 2023
Join us on Friday, February 17th and on Saturday, February 18th for a pulse that ponders, a set of sound-based improvisational performances with S*an D. Henry-Smith and friends. Highlighting sonic excesses—breath, the clicking of guitar pedals, shuffling of shoes, the response of audience members present—both programs will be recorded live for the “first take” of a forthcoming audio album. Details on each performance can be found below.

In “astringency principle of the looking drum,” S*an D. Henry-Smith presents a new sonic performance in which they “play” the camera, engaging it as a percussive device, as a means to rupture the “imposed language” of the instrument and the medium.

what mosses!
group performance
Saturday, February 18, 2023
4 PM
The jam is the jam is the jam—the gang gathers to make some noise, find each other in the fog, tuning in to each other. “what mosses!” reunites S*an D. Henry-Smith in their musical identity, sunchoke, with collaborators Justin Allen, SHYBOI (Yulan Grant), and L’Rain (Taja Cheek) for an improvisational performance, which joins their overlapping interests and play in polyrhythms and poetry.
